Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the potatoes thinly using a mandoline or sharp knife for consistent cooking.
  3. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, gently warm the heavy cream. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Layering
  1. In a 9x13 inch baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes, seasoning each layer with salt, pepper, and herbs.
  2. Pour the warm cream mixture evenly over the layers.
  3. Top with shredded cheese for the golden crust.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serving
  1. Let the casserole rest for 10-15 minutes before serving to help it hold together.
